What is the difference between a Chinese-version EV and the export version?
A Chinese-version EV is built for the mainland Chinese market; the export version of the same model is built for a specific overseas market. The metal is largely the same. What differs is the software region, the telematics, the connected services, the charging connector and who is allowed to service it. Most of those differences can be handled remotely; a few cannot.
Chinese manufacturers sell the same model in two forms. The domestic car carries Chinese-market software, a Chinese SIM in its telematics unit, Chinese map data and app stores, and a GB/T charging inlet. The export car for Europe, Australia, the Middle East or Latin America carries a different software line, a CCS or local charging inlet, and the regulatory changes that market demands.
Parallel importers ship the domestic car abroad because it is cheaper or arrives earlier than the export version. It drives exactly as well. But every service that depends on the manufacturer’s cloud checks the VIN, sees a Chinese-market car outside China, and either stops working or never starts.
What differs, and what can be fixed remotely?

The pattern is simple. Anything that lives in software and depends on manufacturer access can be dealt with by someone who has that access, and it does not matter where the car is parked once the ENET cable and a Windows PC are in place. Anything physical, and anything the local regulator requires, has to be done in the country the car lives in.
Before booking, the useful question is therefore not “is my car a Chinese version?” but “which of my problems are software?” Warning lamps, missing updates, rejected replacement modules, lost keys, locked high voltage after a crash and missing apps all are. A charging inlet or a headlight pattern is not.
